About

Cries of Freedom and Brent Ashworth’s American Heritage Exhibit is celebrating its 18th year!

CRIES OF FREEDOM: THE MUSICAL

  • July 2, 3, 4 at 1:00, 4:00, and 7:00 p.m. in Theatre 2 at SCERA Center for the Arts

Celebrate American 250 with music, acting, and energetic dancing. To paraphrase Martin Luther King, Jr., "Sometimes you have to go backward to go forward," and so it is at this event. You will hear historic words applicable today.

In the lobby we are simulating the Second Continental Congress where our Declaration of Independence was debated and ratified. Participants become delegates and are issued delegate credentials. They must make ten declarations of freedom, watch a few videos, and recite the first part of the Declaration of Independence to a delegate official to become a "founding patriot" and receive a Declaration of Independence/America 250 keepsake. It is a way to remember the document and the concepts that have made America great.

The Brent & Charlene Ashworth American Heritage Museum

  • Open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Gallery 101 at SCERA Center for the Arts.

This year the following new items will be displayed:
- An original 1776 Philadelphia copy of Common Sense by Thomas Paine
- A newspaper covering the passage of Richard Henry Lee’s July 2 "Resolution that these United colonies are and of right ought to be free and independent states"
- A rare Connecticut document signed on July 4, 1776, sending troops to ". . . succor the Armies of the United Colonies"
- The first magazine printing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776

There will also be items in sports, entertainment, science, space, art, and other areas of U.S., Utah, and local history. Come and learn from a master collector and historian.

Celebration of Recent United States Citizens Ceremony

  • Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Theatre 2 at SCERA Center for the Arts

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will be conducting their annual swearing-in ceremony of citizen candidates. Join in the excitement of honoring and celebrating immigrants from around the world who have completed the process to achieve United States citizenship in the past year.
