Scientist in the Spotlight: Biomedical Scientist
Location
About
Visitors will see how a heart works from two very different angles: the fist-sized organ that moves 5 liters of blood every minute, and the individual muscle cells that never stop beating and never get replaced. Along the way, we'll look at real heart cells under the electron microscope and talk about why keeping them healthy is so important.
Then visitors can try a hands-on lab technique, sterile pipetting, the skill I use every day to keep heart cells alive for research. Kids leave with their own pipette.
Scientist in the Spotlight is held on the first and third Friday of each month from 2-4 p.m. The program allows Museum guests to meet real scientists and discuss their research. See program page below for additional scientists in the series.
Included in Museum admission, free to Museum Members and University of Utah faculty, staff, and students with a current UID.
