Saturday, October 17, 2026 | 7:30 PM
Maurice Abravanel Hall
123 W. South Temple
Salt Lake City, UT 84101
Synopsis:
Rick Steves, special guest
America’s leading authority on European travel teams up with the Utah Symphony for a sonic and visual journey celebrating music’s power to transport you. Rick Steves plays tour guide from the U. S. to Europe, drawing on video montages and his extensive knowledge of history and culture to help set the context for each piece. Our orchestra performs a selection of stirring 19th-century anthems by Romantic-era composers, including Grieg, Smetana, Strauss, Berlioz, Elgar, Wagner, and Verdi, each honoring a particular nationality. The final work on the evening’s travel itinerary is Beethoven’s "Ode to Joy," Europe’s official anthem and a reflection of its motto—"United in Diversity."
