About

Candlelight Christmas at This Is the Place Heritage Park

Event hours: 5:00 pm–9:00 pm
Dates: December 11–21, 2026 (Monday–Saturday)

Step into the quiet beauty of Heritage Village and experience what Christmas felt like more than a century ago. Candlelight Christmas is one of Salt Lake City’s beloved holiday traditions, set in a historic pioneer village where time seems to stand still.

Stroll along lantern-lit streets, listen to carolers, visit historic homes filled with festive scents, and enjoy activities that bring the spirit of Christmas to life.

What you will experience

  • Heritage Carolers perform holiday music throughout the village.
  • Visit with Father Christmas and share Christmas wishes. Parents can also see whether their little ones are on the naughty or nice list.
  • The live nativity reenactment invites guests to pause and reflect on the meaning of Christmas.
  • Historic homes feature hands-on holiday crafts, warm firesides, demonstrations of traditional 1800s Christmas practices, storytelling, and simple activities.
  • Find sweet treats and classic toys at the ZCMI Candy and Toy Shop, unique holiday gifts in the Gift Shop, and Brigham’s Donuts.

Know before you go

  • Parking: Free onsite parking is available. Arrive early to make parking easier and enjoy the full evening.
  • Dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes. Much of the event takes place outdoors, with indoor stops throughout the village where you can warm up, rest, and enjoy activities.
  • Accessibility: The village has paved and packed-earth walkways. Most activities work well for wheelchairs and strollers, although some historic cabins have steps or narrow doorways.
