The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, the Musical Auditions

The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world. So when they crash Sunday School and demand parts in the Christmas Pageant, the whole town panics.

Cast of Characters

The Herdman Kids
- RALPH – the oldest and the coolest. He’s the enforcer, 13 years old. Vocal Range C3 to E4
- IMOGENE – leader of the Herdmans. She’s loud, bossy, and crafty. 12 years old. Vocal Range G3 to E5
- LEROY – Ralph’s backup. Very confident in the muscle department, 11 years old.
- CLAUDE – scrappy and smart, 10 years old.
- OLLIE – a bit of a naive urchin who follows the older boys’ leads, 9 years old.
- GLADYS – little but fierce. Nothing scares Gladys. 8 years old. Vocal Range C4 to E5

The Bradleys
- GRACE – sweet, good-humored, slightly frazzled mom, 35-40ish. Vocal Range E4 to D5
- BOB – easygoing dad, wry sense of humor, 35-40ish. Vocal Range A2 to C4
- CHARLIE – typical kid brother, says what he thinks, 10 years old. Vocal Range C3 to C4
- BETH – Charlie’s older and wiser sister. She’s honest and kind, 11 years old. Vocal Range B3 to E5

Church People
- HELEN ARMSTRONG – organized steamroller. She’s always in charge, 40-50ish. Vocal Range G3 to C5
- REVEREND HOPKINS – occasionally befuddled, always well-meaning, 40-50ish. Vocal Range B2 to F4

Church Ladies
- LUANNE – sassy, tells it like it is, 35-40ish. Vocal Range F#3 to Bb4, A3 to D5, or D4 to G5 (Church Lady vocal ranges are interchangeable)
- BETTY – sweet southerner, calls everyone “honey,” 30-40ish. Vocal Range F#3 to Bb4, A3 to D5, or D4 to G5 (Church Lady vocal ranges are interchangeable)
- CONNIE – direct, no-nonsense type, 30-40ish. Vocal Range F#3 to Bb4, A3 to D5, or D4 to G5 (Church Lady vocal ranges are interchangeable)

Kids
- ALICE WENDLEKEN – know-it-all. She thinks she’s perfect. 11 years old. Vocal Range B3 to Db5
- ELMER HOPKINS – preacher’s kid, which means he needs to behave and be nice, 10 years old. Vocal Range D3 to Bb3
- TEDDY SHOEMAKER – wimpy kid with glasses, asks too many questions, 9 years old.
- IVY REED – Beth’s earnest friend who is sometimes a goody-goody, 11 years old.
- Additional kids to play angels and shepherds in the pageant and possibly other kids in the lunchroom.

Auditions for this heartwarming musical will take place on September 19, 2026 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm at Timpanogos Valley Theatre (90 N. 100 W., Heber City, UT 84032).

Callbacks will be on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 by invitation.

Rehearsals will occur on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and Saturdays from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm beginning on September 29, 2026.

Dress/Tech rehearsals will begin on November 30.

Performances will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from December 7 through 19, 2026.

Please come prepared to sing one minute of an upbeat musical theater song of your choice. Please bring a backing track.
