Nicholas Phan is a Grammy Award-winning lyric tenor, curator, and educator, celebrated for his expressive artistry and versatility. He co-founded Art Song Chicago in 2010 and serves as its artistic director. Phan is the host and creator of the web series BACH 52 and has created programs for broadcast on WFMT and WQXR. He has served as guest curator for projects with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Bravo! Vail Music Festival, San Francisco Opera Center, and San Francisco Performances (vocal artist-in-residence, 2014–2018). The Chicago Classical Review praised his programming as “the kind of thoughtful, intelligent programming that should be a model.”
Phan won the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording for Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Mater with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony. His album A Change Is Gonna Come was nominated for the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album. Previous albums (Stranger: Works for Tenor by Nico Muhly, Clairières, and Gods and Monsters) received nominations in 2023, 2020, and 2017. He is the first singer of Asian descent to be nominated in the history of the Best Classical Solo Vocal Album category.
Myra Huang is a two-time Grammy-nominated pianist. Her album Gods and Monsters with Nicholas Phan was nominated for Best Classical Vocal Solo Album at the 60th Grammy Awards (2018), and Clairières (music of Lili and Nadia Boulanger) was nominated in the same category for the 63rd Grammy Awards (2021). She regularly performs with leading opera and classical singers at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The 92nd Street Y, Park Avenue Armory, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Wigmore Hall.
Huang adjudicates competitions and gives masterclasses (including The Met Laffont Competition, SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, and The Schmidt Vocal Arts Competition). She is Head of Music at the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at The Metropolitan Opera, Head of Music at the Aspen Opera Theater Vocal Arts Program, and a faculty member of the Collaborative Piano department at The Manhattan School of Music. She has served on the music staffs of the Washington National Opera, Houston Grand Opera, New York City Opera, and the Palau de les Arts in Valencia. Huang was Head of Music for New York City Opera (2011–2013) and staff pianist for the Operalia Competition (2005–2019). Myra Huang is a Steinway Artist.
