Painting with Plants

In this family-friendly workshop, artist Ellie Irons will lead a paint-making demo using commonly available plant materials to make vibrant, non-toxic watercolor paints.

Children and their families can experiment with watercolor paints made from:
- cabbage
- beets
- hibiscus
- locally foraged weedy plants that are part of Ellie's Feral Hues project

Participants will take home a recipe page on how to experiment with making their own paints at home!

Ellie Irons is an interdisciplinary artist based in current-day Troy, New York, where the Mahicannituck and Mohawk Rivers converge. She received an MFA from Hunter College and a PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute focused on ecosocial art. She is the Co-Director of NATURE Lab at the Sanctuary for Independent Media. Her book Feral Hues was published in 2023 by PS Hudson.
