Topography and Transportation in the Northern Department with Kayla Whitehouse

Schuyler Mansion’s own Kayla Whitehouse will offer the presentation “Topography and Transportation in the Northern Department.”

Major General Philip Schuyler commanded the Northern Department of the Continental Army from 1775 until his resignation in 1778. A skilled planner and logistician, Schuyler spent much of these early years of the Revolutionary War supplying the Northern Department with troops and provisions. One of his greatest assets was his knowledge of the local environment.

This presentation will examine historical maps and letters to explore the ways the natural environment affected the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, with a focus on the Northern Department under Schuyler’s command.

The program is free and open to the public. It will be held inside the Enders House on Schoharie Street, adjacent to our Visitor Center/Museum.
