A Night of Music, Art, & Rock & Roll
Our exhibition, America 250: Rebels, Radicals, and Revolutionaries, seeks to summarize the American story: stories of innovation, stories that were systemically erased, and stories of the fight for equality.
Few genres mirror these themes like Rock & Roll music. With deep roots in African American musical traditions, Rock & Roll, started in the 1950s, merged country, blues, and gospel music. Rock blossomed across communities and racial divides, spawning sub-genres and movements. The artists that pioneered these revolutions through art, fashion, and politics are still beacons in the ongoing struggle for liberation.
At this one-night-only event, we want to take you on a musical journey, listening to great American Rock & Roll music and how it's evolved since the 1950s. Dress like your favorite Rebels: Grace Jones, Prince, Janis Joplin, David Bowie, Little Richard, or your favorite rock star. Check out our mood board for inspiration!
