There’s something about Tony Holiday that draws people together. Community has been at the core of Holiday’s young career from the beginning. Since relocating from Salt Lake City to Memphis in 2017, Holiday has been at the center of a soul blues revival in Memphis, working with a contingent of young, well-schooled musicians with a “family-like” attitude. Mentored by past legends, Holiday and this loose Memphis collective are building on the city’s traditions and carrying them forward.

Motel Mississippi, Holiday’s 2nd solo album, was recorded about an hour outside Memphis in Coldwater, Mississippi, at Zebra Ranch, the studio of the late Jim Dickinson. Combining North Mississippi Hill Country, Delta Blues, and Memphis soul, Motel Mississippi mixes hypnotic blues, driving soul, and juke-joint stompers. The album consists of six originals and two covers: “Rob & Steal” (Paul Wine Jones) and “Nobody But You” (Asie Payton).

Motel Mississippi began as a collaborative effort between Holiday, guitarist/songwriter A. J. Fullerton, and guitarist/producer Dave Gross (who shared production duties with Fullerton). The album was recorded by Kevin Houston. Musicians on the album include Lee Williams Jr. (drums), Terrance Grayson (bass), Aubrey McCrady (guitar), Jake Friel (harmonica), and Mikey Junior (backup vocals).

Motel Mississippi follows 2020’s Soul Service (produced by Ori Naftaly) and two volumes of Tony Holiday’s Porch Sessions, which featured recordings of blues musicians across the U.S. and Europe. Guests on those projects included Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby Rush, John Primer, Lurie Bell, Southern Avenue, Victor Wainwright, and John Németh. Tony will be joined on this tour by award-winning blues guitarist Laura Chavez.

- Most seats are sold as “Tables for Two” (each ticket admits two people).
