Headwaters Arts Center invites the community to a Pop-Up Quilt Show and Community Potluck. Come view the quilts made at the recent Welcome Blanket Quilting workshop with Megan Avery, share a dish that has cultural meaning for you and, if you would like, share your own family’s immigration story. All are welcome.
Over three evenings in September, twelve community members took part in a quilting workshop with teaching artist Megan Avery, each making a blanket for a recent immigrant. This pop-up show is the only chance to see the quilts in person before they are sent to the Welcome Blanket Project, which delivers them to newcomers through partner organizations that support refugees and immigrants.
The Welcome Blanket Project is a nationwide nonprofit that connects communities with recently arrived immigrants. Makers across the U.S. craft small blankets by hand, often including a note about their own family’s story, to give as a gesture of warmth and hospitality.
