About
With a distinctive sound developed through tireless attention to musicality and artistry, Stick Figure has redefined American reggae music with its latest album, Wisdom, released on September 9, 2022. Like his previous releases, Wisdom was written, produced, and recorded by Scott Woodruff, a self-taught musician, at Stick Figure-owned Great Stone Studios in Oakland, California, the former home of Green Day.
Wisdom is Stick Figure’s seventh album and follows the success of 2019’s World on Fire, which peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Top 200, number 6 overall, number 1 Independent, and number 1 Reggae album. According to Nielsen SoundScan data, World on Fire has sold over 300,000 copies, including streaming equivalents. Stick Figure’s catalog has sold well over one million copies and been streamed over three billion times.
Before Wisdom, Stick Figure released six other albums, all recorded solo, with Woodruff laying down the tracks one by one. The current live lineup features Kevin Bong (KBong) on keyboards, Kevin Offitzer on drums, bassist Tommy Suliman, John Gray (Johnny Cosmic) on guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals, Will Phillips on percussion, and Scott on guitar and vocals. Bong, Offitzer, and Suliman have been with the band for ten years, and the camaraderie on stage is infectious.
Stick Figure concerts are gatherings distinguished by audience sing-alongs, hard-hitting bass, extended improvisational interludes, the mind-manifesting hues of a light show, and the much-anticipated entrance of the band’s canine mascot, Cocoa the Tour Dog, a rescued Australian Shepherd. Cocoa has her own 501(c)(3) charity and is the only dog to receive a trophy for her role in selling out the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheater in one day. The show becomes a family gathering spanning ages and demographics, with everyone coming together for good vibes and music.
The release of Wisdom signifies a new era of accessibility for reggae music without sacrificing authenticity. Woodruff’s imaginative, thoughtfully crafted creations have made reggae a way of life for people of all backgrounds, and Stick Figure shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
