About

Join this evening book group as we explore mystery fiction as chosen by the group. Meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Lansingburgh Branch Library.

No registration necessary.

August Mystery book discussion is a CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE book! Our theme this month is to read a book that takes place in a foreign country.

Questions to think about while reading:
- What genre would you describe this book as?
- Was this book character driven? Plot driven? Location driven?
- What about the storytelling progresses the narrative through the book? Is there an overarching conflict (such as a war or space invasion)? Is there a personal conflict? A change in circumstance or location?
- How is the story told and how does that affect the story? In letters? Flashbacks? Through unreliable narrators?
- How were the characters - did you like them? Hate them? Were they complex? In what ways? Who was your favorite and why?
- How would you have liked for the characters to act to resolve issues differently than they did in the story?
- How do the characters change through the book?
- How does the location and setting of the book add to the story? Would this book tell a different story if it were set in a different location?

When we meet up, be prepared to:
- Give us a short summary of the book
- Tell us about your experience reading the book - what emotions did you experience? Were you satisfied with the conclusion? Did you read it all in one sitting or did it take a while to get going?
- Tell us your overall impression of the book
- Have you ever read any other books that were similar in some way to this title?
- Tell us what you know about the author. Will you read more books by this person?

Happy Reading!
