About

“One of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Fure began touring at 19 (in the early ‘70s), when women weren’t welcome in most areas of music. Her debut album came out two years later (with Bonnie Raitt lending a hand), and within months Fure was working with some of the biggest bands of the era: yes, Poco and the J Geils Band (long before ‘My Baby Is A Centerfold’).” — CURVE

Fure’s powerful vocals and masterful guitar skills create a mesmerizing musical experience. One of America’s premier singer-songwriters, she writes deeply personal, deftly crafted songs on love, loss and life, inspired by her father (“Lessons From Home Plate”), topics such as global warming (“Roses in November”), and audience requests for her folk-rock hit “Gravity.”

A pioneer of Women’s Music and a trailblazer in sound technology, Fure began performing in Midwest coffeehouses and campuses at 16. At 19, she moved to L.A. in hopes of obtaining a record deal. Within a year, she was performing as guitarist and vocalist for Spencer Davis, touring with him and writing the single for his album Mousetrap.

In 1973, Fure recorded her solo album Tret Fure on MCA/UNI Records, produced by the late Lowell George of Little Feat. Its success led her to open for Yes, Poco and the J Geils Band.

In the early ’80s, she discovered Women’s Music and moved from mainstream music to the independent side of the industry. Known for her technical expertise and for breaking barriers for women in tech, she recorded women’s music, including mixing the legendary Meg & Cris at Carnegie Hall (1983).

During the ’90s, she performed as a duo with Cris Williamson, also serving as producer and engineer. They released three CDs together before Fure returned to solo work. She has since released 18 acoustic solo albums on her independent label, Tomboy Girl Records.

Fure has appeared regularly on our stage, including as a performer and teacher at our SeegerSongs Adirondack weekend at Sagamore Great Camp, alongside John McCutcheon, Guy Davis and others, capped by a sold-out concert. It’s a great pleasure to welcome her back!
