We close the Schenectady season with the first half of a celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Beethoven’s passing. Three of the world’s greatest ensembles—the Belcea, Brentano, and Ébène—will each present two programs traversing the composer’s sixteen string quartets in Spring and Fall 2027.

This Parisian ensemble has dazzled our audience and those around the world with their awe-inspiring cohesiveness and scintillating performances. The Ébène plays the complete Beethoven cycle this season at Carnegie Hall, and we’re thrilled to have them be part of ours.

A concert by Quatuor Ébène is and remains a musical and sensory experience. For more than two decades, the ensemble has been at the forefront, perpetually breathing new life into familiar repertoire while always seeking further connection to its audience.

After studying with Quatuor Ysaÿe in Paris and with Gábor Takács, Eberhard Feltz and György Kurtág, Quatuor Ébène's unprecedented and outstanding victory at the ARD Music Competition in 2004 marked the beginning of its rise to prominence.

The New York Times called them "A String Quartet That Can Easily Morph Into a Jazz Band." Between May 2019 and January 2020, the quartet recorded the complete Beethoven cycle of 16 string quartets across six continents.
