About
“Her stories are our stories, at once current and timeless. Her lyrics are always well crafted, and her music supports and enhances but never overpowers her message. Every album from Tret is a treat.”

“One of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Fure began touring at 19, in the early ’70s, when women weren’t welcome in most areas of music. Her debut album came out two years later, with Bonnie Raitt lending a hand. Within months, Fure was working with some of the biggest bands of the era: Poco and the J. Geils Band.”
— CURVE
Tret Fure is one of America’s premier singer-songwriters, known for her powerful vocals, masterful guitar skills, and personal, deftly crafted songs about love, loss, and life. Her songs draw inspiration from subjects including her father (“Lessons From Home Plate”) and global warming (“Roses in November”). She may also oblige an audience request for her folk-rock hit, “Gravity.”
A pioneer of Women’s Music and a trailblazer in sound technology, Fure began performing in Midwest coffeehouses and on campuses at 16. At 19, she moved to Los Angeles seeking a record deal. Within a year, she was performing as a guitarist and vocalist with Spencer Davis, touring with him and writing the single for his album Mousetrap. Her 1973 solo album, Tret Fure, was released on MCA/UNI Records and produced by the late Lowell George of Little Feat. Its success led her to open for Yes, Poco, and the J. Geils Band.
In the early ’80s, Fure discovered Women’s Music and left mainstream music for the independent side of the industry. She recorded and mixed work by women artists, including the legendary Meg & Cris at Carnegie Hall in 1983. During the ’90s, she performed as a duo with Cris Williamson and served as producer and engineer; they released three CDs together before Fure returned to solo work. She has released 18 acoustic solo albums on her independent label, Tomboy Girl Records.
Fure has appeared regularly on our stage, including as a performer-teacher at our SeegerSongs Adirondack weekend at Sagamore Great Camp, alongside John McCutcheon, Guy Davis, and others. The weekend concluded with a sold-out concert. It’s a great pleasure to welcome her back!
