A singer’s singer as well as actress, writer and poet, Anne Hills (guitar, banjo) touches the heart with a poet’s evocative palette and singer’s love of melody, and brings a charming stage presence as well. Her robustly beautiful voice and fine songwriting continually win new and ardent fans.

She emerged from Chicago’s early ‘70s underground folk scene to become one of the most beloved and iconic voices of the contemporary folk music scene. Her trove of awards recognizes the vibrancy and artistry of her warm live performances, unique solo and collaborative recording projects, and overall artistry. Her song “Follow That Road” has been a certified folk classic since the late 1990s, and is the title cut on a compilation spearheaded by Christine Lavin.

Her collaborators have included Michael Smith; Tom Paxton (with whom she won a WHAMMIE); and Priscilla Herdman & Cindy Mangsen (TRIO). She appears on major compilations alongside Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, Pete Seeger, Indigo Girls, Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt and The Roches.

Whether singing her own songs, those of collaborators, the words of six-year-old Opal Whiteley, or her song settings of the Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley, accompanied by her guitar, banjo, or simply a Tibetan bell, she puts her whole heart and soul into the moment.
