About
Sober Salon is a quarterly event for people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction to share creative work in a supportive, drug-and-alcohol-free setting, with Caffe Lena’s professional sound, lights and stage. Any art, crafts or performances are welcome: bring a knitted sweater, a painting, a magic trick, a comedy routine, music, poetry or any other artistic work. Sharing creative work can help us express difficult emotions, build trust and connect with a healthy circle of friends.
Things to know:
- Doors open at 6:30 PM. Sign-up is first come, first served.
- Presentations are limited to five minutes.
- The kitchen will be open for service.
- A piano and a variety of instruments, including guitars, will be available to use.
- There will be no screen for displaying photos, but backing tracks can be played for singing.
The event will be hosted by John Dillon and Vivian Nesbitt, longtime creative partners whose work brings together music, storytelling, creativity and recovery. John has been in long-term recovery since 1992 and brings music and collaborative songwriting to treatment and recovery communities throughout the Northeast. Vivian is an actor, writer, producer, singer, musician and storyteller whose work spans stage, film, radio and television.
Together, John and Vivian created and hosted the nationally syndicated public radio program Art of the Song for more than 20 years, talking with songwriters and artists about creativity, inspiration and finding one's own voice.
Admission is free, thanks to the support of the Victor and Helen Geisel Foundation.
