About

Robert Lindquist was born and raised in Albany, New York. He has played piano since age seven and began composing and improvising shortly thereafter. He studied Music Education and Performance at SCCC and SUNY Potsdam, then earned a master’s degree in Jazz Studies from The College of St. Rose.

Trained in both classical and jazz piano, his teachers have included Dan Dobek, Mark Evans, Eugenia Tsarov, Lee Shaw, and Brett Zvacek.

Rob has performed with Kenwood Dennard, Othello Molineaux, Walter White, Chuck D’Aloia, Jeff Seigel, Dave Calarco, John Menegon, Scott Wendholt, Harry Allen, Dick Oatts, and Brett Zvacek. He has won several awards at the 1999 Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival from Benny Green and Chuck Israels.

He has performed professionally since age fifteen in upstate New York, Boston, New York City, and New Jersey, playing jazz, rock, theater, funk, soul, R&B, and classical and chamber music. His groups have included the Dave Calarco Jazz Conclave, the Rich Lamanna Group, EW Quintet, Lee Russo Group, Mike Dimin Ensemble, the George Muscatello Trio, Keith Pray Group, Brian Patneaude Quintet, Cleen Street R&B Band, Doc Orloff’s Blues Elixir, T. S. Ensemble, the Rob Cohen Band, Soul System, Melting Picassos, and the Karen Lawrence Band. He also regularly freelances with other groups in the area.

In 2006, his jazz/funk/fusion group New Regime released its debut CD, “From Scratch,” on Narrow Path Records. In 2007, the group performed at the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival, opening for headliner Joshua Redman. Rob also teaches piano privately and is a band director in the Albany City School District.
