About

We are thrilled to announce the first New York screening of the Independent Spirits Film Series.

Whether you’re a seasoned whisky enthusiast or just beginning to explore the world of whisky and Scotch, this event is for you.

First Fill Spirits and filmmaker Greg Swartz are well-known fixtures within the Scotch whisky community. Since opening its doors on Washington Street in downtown Saratoga Springs nearly five years ago, First Fill Spirits has become a go-to destination for Scotch, Bourbon, Irish, Japanese, and global whiskies and is included in this latest film. Director Greg Swartz, who is based in Los Angeles and has family ties to the nearby Lake George area, is known for his creative eye and ability to uncover compelling stories, people, and places within alcohol culture.

Following his first film, The Water of Life—which focused heavily on Islay and Bruichladdich Distillery—the Independent Spirits Film explores the hidden side of the Scotch whisky industry: independent bottlers. These small, often family-run companies purchase casks from distilleries across Scotland and bottle them in their own unique ways. Independent bottlers such as Signatory Vintage, Murray McDavid, and Cadenhead's offer access to whiskies from distilleries that are rarely, if ever, released to the public—many of which primarily produce for blended Scotch.

We’ll be joined for the evening by Holly and Charles, founders of First Fill Spirits, along with Greg Swartz, as we premiere this series. Guests will also have the opportunity to sample whiskies from several independent bottlers from around the world, accompanied by light food.

What better place to host this special event than with Saratoga Arts in their newly renovated space?

We look forward to welcoming our Saratoga locals and the greater Capital District community, as well as visitors from across New England who are intrigued by the independent bottling world of Scotch whisky.

For those making a weekend of it, we’re also hosting a special masterclass featuring Gordon & MacPhail and Signatory Vintage on Saturday evening. Additional details and tickets can be found on our website.
