Urban Sketching: People & Places with Ottavia Huang

Adding people in our sketch could be a fun way to capture the atmosphere of a place.

In this workshop, Ottavia will guide you through creating a lively scene full of people using watercolor — either from a photograph or direct observation. You’ll move step‑by‑step from the initial pencil design to clean ink outlines with a pen and finally to expressive watercolor washes that bring your scene to life.

Along the way, you’ll learn how to simplify figures, suggest movement, and use thoughtful mark‑making to build character and depth. Ottavia will help you understand how people can enhance composition, create narrative, and add to your sketches—whether you’re drawing in a café, at a park, or from a favorite photo.
