About

Join beloved Troy-based pianist and composer Sophia Vastek as she celebrates her first album under her new moniker, Sova. Violin trio Triplum (Connor Armbruster, Jessica Bowen, and Lucy Nelligan) will open the show.

Sova’s new LP Alight! is out September 4th via Hout Records and marks an exciting expansion of her sound. In live performance and in close collaboration with sound engineer Sam Torres, Sova has become known for her intimate and highly-detailed sound design, welcoming listeners into the complex sound of the piano itself.

Already garnering critical praise, Alight! has been described as "a mesmerizing fusion of neoclassical composition and indie electronic sound design" (Last Day Deaf) and "a deeply immersive and cinematic experience" (Expansion Radial).

"Under the name Sova, Sophia Vastek continues to broaden her creative universe, exploring new textures and embracing a more collaborative approach while preserving the intimate sensitivity that defines her work." (R+)

For Sova, the piano has always been home. A second generation pianist, she holds a deep reverence for her history, coupled with an exploratory ear, and moves quietly between musical worlds. Described as performing with "passion and profound tenderness" (Second Inversion), her intuitive playing style has evolved into a dynamic, cinematic sound that blends neoclassical, ambient, and jazz sensibilities.

Triplum is a trio of violinists formed by Connor Armbruster, Jessica Bowen, and Lucy Nelligan in 2026. Their debut piece, composed by Armbruster, is a new mass of sacred polyphony; a springing to new life of the earliest forms of written harmony with three distinct voices that weave through each other, coalesce into unison, and break apart again. The effect is uniquely soul-vibrating and primordial, a triangulation of the three players’ different backgrounds playing the same instrument.
