Step Afrika!’s The Evolution Tour

Step Afrika! brings The Evolution Tour to Paramount Hudson Valley on February 13, celebrating more than 30 years of percussive performance. The tour features new works alongside pieces developed through the company’s long-standing artistic relationship with South Africa.

The production showcases the range of stepping through works including Yebo, which blends Amapiano and Afrobeat with contemporary dance; Passing 30, a celebration of three decades of Step Afrika! creativity featuring body percussion, spoken word, and drumlines; and Zulu, rooted in the company’s study of traditional Zulu dance. Audiences will also experience STRIKE, an exploration of rhythm, sound, and the human body as a percussive instrument.

Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! blends the percussive dance traditions of historically African American fraternities and sororities with traditional African dance and contemporary art forms. Performances incorporate storytelling, humor, songs, and audience participation.
