Lyman and Anna Eppes Land Grant Hike

Fri, Nov 13 · 1:00 PMto3:00 PM

Location

115 John Brown Road · Lake Placid, NY

About

Lyman Eppes was one of Gerrit Smith’s 1846 land grantees. He and Anna moved to their 40 acres in the spring of 1849, and would become successful farmers, remaining for the rest of their lives.

On the old private farm road leading to their original property, there will be elevation loss and gain as we drop from 2000' to a brook and climb to 2100' over a little over a mile, then return to the start, for a roughly 2.4-mile hike.

We’ll be crossing land owned by the Uihlein Foundation to enter the NYS wild forest. We’ll stop at the edge of the land grant, which is still privately owned.

Hike will not start at John Brown Farm. Directions to the starting point will be shared with registrants.
