"Or Give Me Death: An (Educational) Tour of the Historic Burying Ground"
Location
About
Enjoy a revolutionary evening amongst the graves this autumn with Historic Huguenot Street. Join us for a Revolutionary War-themed guided tour of the historic Old Huguenot Burying Ground on Saturday evenings in October.
Visiting gravestones associated with soldiers, a suspected Loyalist, and witnesses to history, “Or Give Me Death” explores the diverse stories of the Revolution through the final resting places of its participants. Drawing from archival records, staff will share stories ranging from colonial funeral practices to local raids, and explore the evolution of gravestones in New York and what they can tell us about the traditions of the European settlers along Huguenot Street. Appropriate for all ages.
Please note that the historic burying ground has uneven, unpaved ground and close clusters of gravestones, so this tour may not be accessible for everyone. Historic Huguenot Street aims to make its programs accessible wherever possible, with understandable limitations given the historic nature of its grounds. For more information about the accessibility of this tour, contact the Tours & Interpretation Coordinator at (845) 255-1660 x114. Please inform us in advance of any physical limitations you or another member of your party may have so we can provide the best possible experience.
