Grab a brush and help turn a simple ceramic bowl into a symbol of hope. Join us at the Everson to decorate a handmade bowl that will be included among those available at Empty Bowls, the Interreligious Food Consortium’s (IFC) annual fundraiser on September 25 — with proceeds supporting local food pantries. Everyone’s welcome, no experience necessary.
With a generous donation of materials from AMACO, try new techniques with their velvet underglazes in both liquid and spray form, combined with stencils generated by the Museum’s vinyl cutter.
About Empty Bowls:
Everyone is invited to stop by, browse the bowls, and see the work of local artists, students, and volunteers up close. For guests who’d like to take a bowl (or multiple!) home, each $25 donation gets you a handmade bowl plus a bowl of soup, each generously donated by one of our local restaurants.
It’s a simple but powerful idea:
- Artists, potters, and students create beautiful, one-of-a-kind bowls.
- Local restaurants contribute delicious soups for the event.
- Volunteers and attendees come together to share a meal and make a difference.
Every guest who takes a bowl home keeps it as a reminder that, while their bowl is full today, someone else’s may not be — and that they have the power to help change that.
All proceeds go directly to the IFC, supporting their work to end hunger right here in our community. From its humble beginnings, Empty Bowls has grown into a global movement — with events raising millions of dollars each year for local food groups and hunger relief programs.
The Empty Bowls fundraiser on September 25 is presented by the Interreligious Food Consortium. The Decorate-A-Thon on September 11 is an Everson Museum of Art program, free with admission, created to support the event.
