About

Patterson Hood and Craig Finn performing on stage at the same time!

Patterson Hood is an acclaimed singer-songwriter, guitarist, and co-founder of the Southern rock band Drive-By Truckers. Born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, he grew up around the region’s musical heritage; his father, David Hood, was a session bassist for the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Hood’s work—both with Drive-By Truckers and as a solo artist—draws on storytelling traditions and blends rock, country, and soul to explore Southern identity, social justice, and personal introspection. He has released solo albums including Killers and Stars (2004) and Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance (2012). His newest solo album, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams, produced by Chris Funk (The Decemberists), will be released via ATO Records in February 2025.

Craig Finn is a Minnesota-bred singer/songwriter based in New York City, best known as the singer of The Hold Steady. In the ’90s he led Minneapolis indie band Lifter Puller before forming The Hold Steady in 2003 with Tad Kubler. The Hold Steady’s ninth album, The Price Of Progress, was released in March 2023. Finn’s sixth solo album, Always Been, was released on April 4 and was produced by Adam Granduciel (The War On Drugs); it features performances by Granduciel and members of The War On Drugs, Kathleen Edwards, Sam Fender, and others. Always Been tells the story of a man who becomes a clergyman despite a lack of faith; a limited-edition, 92-page companion book, Lousy With Ghosts, accompanies the album and features 11 works of fiction by Finn.

Finn released his first solo album in 2012 and followed with additional solo LPs from 2015–2019, including Faith in the Future, We All Want The Same Things, and I Need a New War. His fifth album, A Legacy of Rentals, was released in 2022. Since 2022 he has also produced the podcast series That’s How I Remember It, co-produced and distributed by Talkhouse, which explores memory and creativity with guests such as writers, filmmakers, and musicians.
