About
In Jailhouse Horses, award-winning writer Deborah Miles introduces readers to the unique world of inmates caring for retired racehorses. Men convicted of manslaughter, robbery, drug dealing, and forgery, as well as a heroin addict, share their lives and how Thoroughbreds helped create new outlooks for their futures.
Beautifully illustrated with exclusive photographs, the book describes their upbringing and interests, and what they are doing now after being released from prison. You meet a Muslim who chants the Quran to the horses, aspiring entrepreneurs, and many who just want to be fathers to their children.
Jailhouse Horses offers a new perspective on human behavior. These true, engaging tales highlight the importance of second chances and the allure of retired Thoroughbreds.
