Never Land: A Trans, Queer, Peter Pan Celebration!
Location
About
Unicorn Bar presents Never Land, a drag cabaret inspired by themes of queer escapism in Peter Pan. Created and performed by Philadelphia-based artists Dicky Dutton, Heather Jones, and Michael Lewis, the work explores gender, identity, and the consequences of trying to outgrow the roles we're assigned at birth. Fresh from a successful run at the 2026 Philadelphia Fringe Festival in collaboration with Liberty City Arts, Never Land comes to Kingston, New York, for one night only at Unicorn Bar, where it will incorporate one very special guest.
What began as a classical recital evolved into a fully realized cabaret after Dutton and Jones commissioned A Boy with Baleen for Teeth, a duet for mezzo, baritone, and piano by composer Michael Genese, with words by Rajiv Mohabir. The current production features new songs and incidental music by composer and pianist Michael Lewis, narration by Anna Lieberman, and stage direction by Rose Freeman.
Dutton (they/she) is a Philadelphia-based singer and performance artist whose collaborations include National Sawdust, Beth Morrison Projects, Opera Philadelphia, and Bearded Ladies Cabaret. Jones (they/them) is a multidisciplinary performer and creator whose work has been commissioned by Wild Up Ensemble, Spoleto Festival USA, and Amanda+James Productions. Lewis is faculty at the Academy of Vocal Arts, where he works as a vocal coach, chorus master, and collaborative pianist, and is principal pianist and coach on Opera Philadelphia mainstage productions.
