Collaborative Collage/Mixed Media Works
Carol Struve and Stephen Niccolls

The DRAW Gallery
24 Iwo Jima, Kingston, NY
November 7–28, 2026

Opening reception: Saturday, November 7, 5–7 pm

THE BACK & FORTH is an exhibition of collaborative collages that seem to contain a narrative of how they came to be. It is possible to examine each work and imagine the steps of the process that brought it into being in its present form.

The exhibition was inspired by a collection of collaborative wedding anniversary cards the artists started making in 2020. Instead of making two cards for each anniversary, they began collaborating on one card to celebrate each year of their marriage.

Carol Struve is a Hudson Valley-based painter and printmaker. Her work has been included in regional and national exhibitions, including solo exhibitions at A.I.R. Gallery in New York City and the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota. Selected regional exhibitions include Manhattan Graphics Center, Dorsky Museum, LABspace, Lockwood Gallery, Monument Gallery, Wired Gallery, and Woodstock Artists Association. She has served twice as a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship panelist and has received several grants and residencies. Struve taught college art classes for 20 years and has more recently taught classes at The DRAW in Kingston. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Stephen Niccolls is a painter based in New York’s Hudson Valley. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and holds an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has exhibited at museums and galleries throughout New York State and the Northeast. Recent solo shows include Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, John Davis Gallery in Hudson, and the Woodstock Artists Association Museum. His work has also been included in group exhibitions at 68 Prince Street, Monument, and Lockwood Gallery in Kingston; Front Space Gallery in New York City; and Jessica Hagen Fine Art + Design in Newport, Rhode Island. He is the recipient of the Phelan Award, the Purchase Award from the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, and the Albany Mayor’s Prize. Niccolls also taught college art classes for over 20 years.
