Rooted in the raw, timeless sounds of Appalachian old-time music, JP Harris and Sophie Mae Wellington bring together fiddle tunes, flat-picked guitar, soulful singing, and deep rhythmic drive. Harris’s fiercely personal approach to traditional music meets Wellington’s adventurous musicianship and Appalachian flatfooting for an evening that feels both deeply rooted and joyfully alive.
JP Harris is known for his electrified outlaw country music and has recently returned to old-time music, which he describes as a lasting love and a baseline for his musical life. With Shaving A Dead Man, he offers a personal interpretation of Appalachian old-time tradition, alongside fiddler Chance McCoy of Old Crow Medicine Show. The album was recorded in Monroe County, West Virginia, and is out October 23 on Bloodshot Records.

“Sophie Wellington's dancing reveals a deep knowledge and love of Appalachian music and spot on rhythmic sensibilities, enhanced by a jazz education. Her singular approach to percussive dance opens new possibilities where we thought there were none left!”
