An evening of music from the crossroads of Greece, the Balkans, and the Arab world, featuring two ensembles rooted in tradition, collaboration, and the power of live, communal sound.
Led by violinist Eleni Govetas, Eleni Govetas Kompanía brings Greek and Balkan folk music into the present with driving rhythms, bold arrangements, and a raw, contemporary edge. Drawing on the members’ shared Balkan and Mediterranean roots, as well as influences ranging from regional dance music to punk, the band creates a sound that is both deeply grounded and fiercely alive.
Duo al Rouh brings together Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Zafer Tawil and oud player Rabbi Zachi Asher, joined for this performance by percussionist Rich Stein. Their music moves through Arabic maqam traditions, Sufi devotional music, original compositions, and songs of longing, sorrow, joy, and spiritual possibility. At once virtuosic and intimate, their performances make room for deep listening, storytelling, laughter, and connection.
Presented together, these musicians offer a night of expansive acoustic music: vibrant folk traditions, improvisation, modal melodies, dance rhythms, and songs that speak across borders and histories.
