On Thursday, December 17, we welcome Flynn Larsen to Meet the Artist. Larsen will present two of her self-published photo books, How Far Apart Are the Stars and A Dream of Flying. She will also discuss her trajectory as an artist and a working mom, and her thinking on how to stay enchanted and playful while living in the challenging world that we do. Larsen will have copies of her books for sale throughout the evening. The event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube page at 6pm.
Meet the Artist takes place on select Thursday evenings at CPW, with talks by local and visiting artists. The series gives the public a chance to get to know new work, hear about artistic processes, and meet friends and other local artists.
About Flynn Larsen:
Moving through the demands of care, labor, and creative survival, Larsen uses photography and video to “perform” her own life. The camera becomes a collaborator rather than a witness, helping to transform “cotton wool days” (as Virginia Woolf puts it in Moments of Being) into something buoyant, playful, and quietly defiant.
She is an instructor at the Penumbra Foundation and part-time faculty at Marist College. She continues her freelance photography practice and develops curricula for independently offered workshops, seminars, and classes.
Larsen studied English Literature at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and photography at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, before launching her photography career. She lives in Beacon, New York, with her husband and two children.
Meet the Artist is made possible by grants from the Arnold & Augusta Newman Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
