Saapato / Ian Macphee / Many Hands

Saapato is the music project of upstate New York–based sound artist Brendan Principato. His work explores the intersection of ecology and music, weaving manipulated field recordings with lush electronic soundscapes that invite listeners to reconsider their place within nature. He has completed multiple residencies with the National Park Service and the Alaska State Park Service, including a 2023 residency near Juneau documenting whale and bird migrations, and a 2022 residency on Fire Island, New York, recording the fragile ecologies of swale and dune habitats. His practice extends into site-specific installation, most recently presented at Experimental Sound Studio’s Sonic Pavilion 2025 festival in Chicago. Saapato’s recordings have been recognized as Best Ambient on Bandcamp during the months of their release, and his immersive live performances have brought him into collaboration and touring alongside artists such as Laraaji, Don Slepian, Patricia Wolf, and Green-House among others. His discography includes releases on Constellation Tatsu, Aural Canyon, Sound as Language, AKP Recordings, and Window Sill Records.

Ian MacPhee utilizes hardware and field recordings to create ambient soundscapes that lend to the creation of a dense, texture-based landscape. MacPhee’s music works in conversation with his photographic explorations and displays an appreciation for the present. MacPhee’s live performances consist of drone, found sound and video art, creating an immersive environment.
