About

Curated by September Gallery

Opening Reception: Saturday, July 18, 5-7pm

Jazz has long shaped Reginald Madison’s life and practice. Raised in a household of musicians, he continues to work with the sounds of jazz close at hand in his Hudson studio, embracing improvisation as both method and mindset.

The exhibition reflects that approach through works built from found and salvaged materials, where each piece is created and reworked by instinct rather than a fixed plan.

The exhibition includes:
- wall sculptures composed of wood from a defunct local factory
- two series of abstract works on paper, including the 1990s suite In a Silent Way (a reference to Miles Davis’s 1969 studio album)
- a never-before-exhibited 1986 painting, Caravan

On view throughout the 2026 Hudson Jazz Festival (October 2-4).

Hudson Hall’s programs are made possible with support from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

This project has been supported by a grant from the Fund for Columbia County of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
