About

Doors open 7:00pm. Show starts 7:30pm.
Theme: TBA

Every month, we gather around an open mic to hear our fellow humans tell us their truths. If you’re familiar with The Moth, it’s kind of like that.

At Front Parlor, tellers volunteer their names in a can, and the MC selects the order at random. (Bribes encouraged.) Tellers share 5-minute, true stories based on a common theme.

Front Parlor also features "flash nonfiction" — one- or two-sentence, audience-submitted stories responding to a prompt based on the evening’s theme. Flash nonfiction is a relatively painless (and anonymous) way to share your stories.

The Front Parlor Series began as the Front Parlor Trojan Storytelling Series, birthed at the Ale House in Troy, NY in February of 2011 by host, curator, and NYC-ex-patriot Abby Lublin. The Series soon expanded cross-river to Albany, and we held monthly open mics in both cities for about eight years. Then the Covid-19 pandemic happened, and our events were forced to go virtual. As of July 2021, we’re back to our in-person open mics in Troy, but Albany is still on hiatus.
