“The Problem with Plastic” Book Talk + How a Bill Becomes a Law
Join us for a book talk and conversation about plastics and how to push legislation with environmental policy expert Judith Enck. After presenting on her book, The Problem with Plastic: How We Can Save Ourselves and Our Planet Before It’s Too Late, Enck will be joined by Shaunty M of Golden Leaf Books to talk about how to make a bill into law. Enck’s organization, Beyond Plastics, works on legislation to reduce plastic in our environment, while Shaunty has experience pushing electric vehicle legislation.

The exhibition opening will take place from 6–7 p.m. with beverages and light snacks. Ahead of the book talk, join artist Nicole Chochrek for a 6:30 p.m. artist talk about Adopt A Jar, a participatory project showcasing our plastic consumption.
The Problem with Plastic examines the environmental and public health impacts of plastic, including pollution in oceans and air, climate effects, waste, and the disproportionate effects on marginalized communities. The book also explores microplastics in the environment and human body, challenges the idea that recycling can solve the crisis, and offers practical steps, including a household waste audit, to help readers track and reduce their plastic consumption.
About Judith Enck
In 2009, Judith Enck was appointed Regional Administrator of Region 2 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by President Barack Obama. She was the longest-serving EPA Region 2 Regional Administrator. Enck is a faculty member at Bennington College, where she teaches classes on plastic pollution, and founder of Beyond Plastics.
