Location

3337 6th Avenue · Troy, NY

About

  • 5 pm: Garlic-planting at Collard City Growers (CCG) with Ellie Irons
  • 6 pm: Fire Cider at People’s Health Sanctuary (PHS) with Heidi Woolever (registration required)

Get your hands earthy planting next season’s garlic crop at Collard City Growers, then move to People’s Health Sanctuary to put this year’s garlic crop to work as we make a big batch of the health tonic fire cider.

Starting at Collard City Growers, we’ll learn about the life cycle of garlic and some helpful practices for growing it locally, as we tuck next year’s crop into the ground. At 6 pm we’ll transition to PHS to brew up a community batch of health promoting fire cider.

Full of stimulating spicy pungent aromatic ingredients, including garlic, fire cider warms the body, boosts the immune system, supports the respiratory system and aids digestion. This traditional folk remedy has been used and shared for generations by herbalists to ward off sickness and promote health.

This series is facilitated by herbalists affiliated with the People’s Health Sanctuary Community Apothecary who are volunteering their time and sharing information for educational purposes. None of the remedies shared in these workshops are intended to diagnose or treat any disease.

The workshop series is held on the second floor of the NATURE Lab building, which is currently only accessible by a flight of stairs. If stairs will present a barrier to attending the workshop please get in touch in case we can accommodate your participation in another way.
