Reception and Reading @ Soule: "Veterans Voices: Poetry, Prose, and Portraits by Syracuse Area Veterans" In-Person

In honor of Veterans Day, join us November 10 from 5:15–6:00 p.m. at Soule Branch Library for a reception for an exhibit of composite portraits of members of the Syracuse Veterans’ Writing Group, created by local photographer and Vietnam Veteran Robert Hawley and his daughter Elizabeth of Hawley Studios. Walk through the exhibit in the adult section of the library, learn more about the Veterans’ Writing Group, and enjoy free refreshments. This event is suitable for all ages.

From 6:00–7:15 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room, the Syracuse Veterans’ Writing Group and Onondaga Veterans Poetry Workshop will read their original poetry and prose. Listen to veterans’ stories and perspectives on military service, going to war, and coming home. This event is free and open to the public, but is suitable only for ages 15 and up. There may be profanity and discussion of violence, killing, death, and topics related to war.

The exhibit will also be on display October 31–November 24, 2026, during library hours.
