Art Exhibit @ Soule: "Veterans Voices: Poetry, Prose, and Portraits by Syracuse Area Veterans" In-Person

This photographic exhibit features composite portraits of members of the Syracuse Veterans' Writing Group, created by local photographer and Vietnam veteran Robert Hawley and his daughter Elizabeth of Hawley Studios. The documentary project pairs original photographs of individual veterans in uniform during their service with contemporary portraits of those same veterans. The exhibit also includes collaged writing by the veterans. The composite images showcase veterans’ lived experience, from service member to veteran, with time as the intervening agent.

The Hawley Studio was founded in 1946, when Robert’s father returned from WWII. Robert joined the business after his Vietnam service.

The exhibit will be on display in the adult section on the main floor of Soule Branch Library from October 31, 2026, to November 24, 2026. A reception and reading will be held at the library on November 10 from 5:15 pm to 7:15 pm.
