STORY SONGS OF THE 70s
Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, and Harry Chapin
Get ready for an unforgettable evening of music as Tom DiMenna and his talented band bring the iconic story songs of the 1970s to life. Featuring the works of Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, and Harry Chapin, this heartfelt tribute showcases DiMenna’s ability to channel the vocal and musical style of these artists.
Maine-based singer/songwriter Tom DiMenna has been captivating audiences with his rich voice, masterful guitar playing, and knack for storytelling. His debut album, You Know Me, My Devil Says, was released in 2020, and he followed that with a sold-out tour of Cat Stevens’ classics in 2021. DiMenna has expanded his repertoire to include the works of Gordon Lightfoot and Harry Chapin in a broader celebration of 1970s story songs.
Accompanied by a skilled ensemble including Eddie Holm on bass and Frank Fotusky on guitar, Tom recreates the magic of these tracks, making them resonate as deeply today as they did decades ago.
"I’ve been playing since college," Tom shares, "where I was a lowly hand signaler on the football team. Then I played a year of semi-pro football for the Bologna Warriors in Italy. The experience of quarterbacking an Italian football team was pretty funny. I spent the next decade working on a movie about it."
Tom also honed his comedic talents at Second City and other improv schools in Chicago, L.A., and New York. One of his sketches, where he portrayed the ghost of Telly Savalas in a lounge act, evolved into an off-Broadway show that ran for several years. Eventually, Tom returned to music, settling in Maine with his partner, Lauren.
Join us for this one-of-a-kind tribute that will transport you back to the heart and soul of the ’70s. The legend lives on!
