"The Last American Newspaper" is an urgent dispatch from the journalists on the front line between facts and “fake news.”

Upstate New York journalist Ken Tingley adapts his memoir about the Post-Star, a small-town newspaper with big ambitions. Based on true events, this gripping drama takes you inside the newsroom to witness trials and triumphs, from a daring exposé on the opioid epidemic to a Pulitzer Prize. Follow the rise and fall of a close-knit team of journalists as they struggle against a tide of economic and political forces that will redefine America’s access to information.

Part docu-drama, part intimate character study, "The Last American Newspaper" celebrates the truth-tellers and the communities they serve, reminding us why a free press matters now more than ever.

• Following the 2 p.m. matinee, Saturday, Oct. 3 — "American Theatre News Now": A town hall discussion on the state of the arts coverage featuring Jesse McKinley (Style correspondent, The New York Times), Matt Britten (founder, Broadway Briefing), Rob Weinert-Kendt (editor-in-chief, American Theatre Magazine), and others. Free and open to the public.

• 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 — Chef's Table. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by a local restaurant.

• 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 — Behind the Scenes. 12:30 p.m. complimentary coffee and pastry before the pre-show discussion featuring leading local journalists from the Albany Business Review, the Berkshire Eagle, and more. Free and open to the public.
