Hailing from Rhinebeck, NY, The Decoys began as a duo: singer/guitarist Michael Mondello (Mo) and bassist Chris Davison (Slim). Mandolin/harmonica player Chuck Jacob (Harpo) later joined. The band has since rounded out its lineup with drummer Jamie Hurst (JR) and singer/guitarist Chris Karson (KMan), bringing together former members of some of Rhinebeck’s most notable bands.
Led by Mondello, The Decoys play popular rock and roll songs in an upbeat, fun, freewheeling, jam-oriented style. They describe their refreshing Americana/bluegrass sound as “Rockgrass.” Influenced by The Kinks, The Stones, Petty, The Beatles, and The Dead, the band also plays songs from the ’80s and ’90s through the present, with a spontaneous approach that keeps the crowd—and the band—guessing what will happen next.
