About
Betts Library is honored to welcome Emerson Shenandoah, director of the Skä•noñh Center, to discuss the profound impact of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy—especially the Onondaga Nation—on U.S. democratic principles.
Mr. Shenandoah will also delve into the history of the Great Law of Peace, the relationship that has been shaped through the centuries starting with the words "merciless Indian savage," and the continued relevance of Indigenous political philosophy in shaping America’s foundational ideals.
As America marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Betts Library would like to elevate the Native perspective on this topic through the expertise of local Native experts.
