Calico Rebellion: A Documentary Screening and Filmmaker Discussion
Location
About
Enjoy a free screening of the original documentary Calico Rebellion, from independent producers Victoria Kupchinetsky and Misha Gutkin, in partnership with WMHT Public Media and the New York State Museum. Light refreshments will be available beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Calico Rebellion captures a mythical memory that lives on in the Catskills: a time when men armed with rifles and pitchforks, disguised in eerie masks and gowns, descended from bucolic hills to stage the Anti-Rent War. That farmers’ uprising changed the course of American history. Today, although largely forgotten, its history lives on through descendants, stories, songs, and costumes preserved since the 1840s.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers. The premiere broadcast of Calico Rebellion follows on Tuesday, November 23, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on WMHT Public Media and the free PBS App.
