About
Painting an iris in watercolor is a beautiful exercise in patience, observation, and control. In this workshop, Kris Woodward will guide you through building soft, translucent layers that bring the delicate folds of iris petals to life.
Each wash adds depth and subtle color shifts, helping you understand how to create luminous, natural-looking florals. Students may choose to work from a tracing or from an actual iris. Using your favorite reference photos, you’ll select a color palette that inspires you and create a finished 8" x 10" watercolor iris. Kris will demonstrate her approach and offer individual guidance as you develop your own piece.
Whether you’re new to watercolor or looking to refine your botanical painting skills, this workshop offers a calm, supportive space to slow down, study the flower’s form, and enjoy the meditative process of layered watercolor painting.
