The Albany Institute of History & Art is pleased to host the 12th Annual City School District of Albany Elementary Art Show from Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 3, 2026. Creative student artwork from all twelve elementary schools will be showcased in the museum's Rice House.
Event hours:
- Opening reception: Friday, May 1 — 5–7 PM
- Saturday, May 2 — 10 AM–5 PM
- Sunday, May 3 — 12–5 PM
The opening reception is free and all are invited to attend. The art show is open during regular museum hours on Saturday and Sunday. Free admission for exhibiting students and their families.

Roll up your sleeves and put away your phones! Print and color your own postcards with the art of Blanche Lazzell. Experience the screenprint/silkscreen process with The Department of Things Studio Director Kristin Nason in this fun, interactive art program for all ages. Print a quick card or stay to write, color, and customize your designs. Materials are provided and you'll leave with a stack of postcards.

Community Weaving Workshop with Margot Becker
Weaver Margot Becker will design and facilitate a 6' x 8' community woven artwork inspired by the paintings on view. Come relax in the classroom and learn the basics of weaving. All materials are provided and all skill levels are welcome. Sessions are held February 16, May 1, and June 19. After the sessions, all squares will be assembled by Margot and displayed at the Institute.
Margot Becker is an artist, weaver, and educator based in Hudson, NY. Through textile processes she explores sense of place, the natural environment, and the connection between the individual and the communal subconscious. Her work has been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston. She has attended residencies at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, ACRE, Mildred’s Lane, Rabbit Island, and AZ West. She received her BA in studio art from Bard College in 2009 and her MFA from California College of the Arts in 2020, where she was awarded the Edwin Anthony & Adelaine Boudreaux Cadogan Scholarship and the Toni A. Lowenthal Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Textiles.
