About
Over 30 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer.
A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor.
Gulman has made five TV specials, including his HBO Max specials “Born On 3rd Base,” which addresses the current Tale-of-Two-Cities–style wealth gap, and “The Great Depresh,” a tour de force look at mental illness that is equal parts hilarious and inspiring.
Most recently he made his off-Broadway debut with a five-week sold-out run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre of his critically acclaimed one-man show Grandiloquent, directed by Tony Award winner Moritz von Stuelpnagel and produced by Mike & Carlee Productions ("Oh Mary").
In 2019 he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He can most recently be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the Hulu comedy series Life & Beth.
His first book, Misfit: Growing Up Awkward in the ’80s, a memoir covering Kindergarten through twelfth grade, was published by Flatiron Books and released in September 2023. Amy Schumer called the book "laugh out loud funny and heartfelt," and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Adrian Nicole LeBlanc found it "exquisite, love-affirming and generous."
Today Gulman is a popular touring comic, selling out theaters around the country, including Carnegie Hall. He is currently touring with Misfit: A Gary Gulman Stand Up & Book Tour, which features material based on his book but not a repeat of it.
Gary lives in Harlem with his wife.
Grandiloquent is Gary Gulman’s hilarious new show about insecurity, empathy, self-acceptance, and how a thoughtful boy learned to use humor, reading, and writing to cope with the consequences of his parents’ blunders. Learn why a seemingly confident middle-aged man feels most comfortable in a large room where a thousand strangers are laughing at him.
